Regenerative Leadership Institute: Water Conservation, Need of Today and Tomorrow for Better World
Facts and figures say that water conservation is not an option. It’s a serious upcoming threat, and soon if we didn’t find out a way we will not be getting fresh water. Seems dramatic right, but it’s true because world is currently suffering due to lack of clean water. But for once we must take initiative and find and start using all the innovative solutions for water conservation.
If we talk about water conservation that means cut in lavishing life. So our participation is most important. So we must act now, so our kids will have a brighter and greener future.
What The Stats Says About Water?
If the population grows at similar rate i.e. exponentially, our drinkable water supply remains at about 1 percent of the total water present on the earth. We have only 3% water on the earth that is fresh and usable. Two third of it is locked as ice-burgs and glacier. Of the remaining one fifth is inaccessible and at remote places. Other resource is rain water that is used but if flooded we can save it for future use because it just uncontrollable. Thus we only have 0.08% of fresh water for use and if the population increases at the same rate what you think how long this 0.08% last.
What Little Things We Can Do That Make Differences?
If you really think about conservation of water for next gen then take first step and save water from your home first. Let’s lime light on few ways that can conserve water at your home.
We all know we waste a lot of water every year due to unattended faults at home like leakage, unnecessary and excessive cloth washing, using outdated appliances that use more water, unnecessary wastage of water on car washing, and there are several other everyday household activities that wastes lots of water it seems nothing for a single day but if calculated for annual consumption you can save a lot of water.
What we can do:
· Do not turn on the tap while brushing your teeth, open the tap only at the time of rinsing.
· Take shower at low pressure, and take short bath. Re-use bath water at your garden and lawn. You can also use it for heavy cleaning like, car wash and floor wash.
· Don’t use outdated home appliances like, dish washer and washing machine, better you use AAA rating product, this will save a lot of water.
· Use rain water harvesting methods for saving water. Collect rain water and use this water for gardening and car washing.
· Use plenty of trees and plants in your lawn and use mulch around it so that it keeps moisture longer so you need less water.
